installed a new wireless card, and now I can get on the network perfect, but it won't pull up the internet at all :-/

the Sata-to-moxal adapted to use my old hard drive is the wrong gender

but the new RAM for mom's laptop works fine.

Ugh, I'm working out really hard, but it's so exhausting. This is why I always end up skipping days (which tend to turn into weeks). But not this time. Gotta stick to it!

Update [Jul. 11th, 2009|12:26 am]

I am still in texas. I am still bad with my money. I am still emotional. I am still putting things off. I am still overworked and generally in physical pain of some sort. I am still proud and convinced I am a failure at the same time in various aspects of my life. I'm not taking enough pictures. I'm sad too much of the time. I'm lazy too much of the time. That is all.

provided the reports are true [Jul. 10th, 2009|05:12 pm]

Morgan Freeman has already been pissing me off for months with those Visa ads. Now, he's a creepy ol' sleazebag to boot. "When was the last time you went to the aquarium-?" (Okay, it's been a while) "with your daughter-?" (the last time I went to the aquarium, it'd be pretty selfish to go without her) "on a Tuesday-?" (look, you asshole, I have to work) "And then stuck your tongue down the throat of her daughter?" (She's barely over a third your age and she wasn't close when you started your depravity, you creepy sicko.)

The last part was cut from the commercials (wisely).

I am aware of this information courtesy of Patti. She also informed me of someone else's disturbing revelation on the matter, that being that if he impregnates her, he will be the (soon to be ex-)step-great-grandfather of his daughter. Completely disgusting.

He had none of my good will because of the Visa commercial, and now he has no cause to show his face anywhere again. His wife shouldn't be divorcing him, she should be castrating him. I think a Lorena Bobbit maneuver is justified in this instance.

RIP CRT [Jul. 9th, 2009|08:56 pm]

When I moved to Toronto I took a computer monitor with me, and it was an CRT that I'd already had for a few years already. This was this was the monitor I used when I applied to grad school and the monitor I used when starting Dinosaur Comics.

This monitor had served me well, but the past year or so it was clearly dying. The display would get fuzzy, and then snap back. Now I use three monitors and this was on the screen I used mainly for status stuff, so it was okay. I could still read the text when I needed to!

It was getting old though, and this morning I actually thought I was watching it finally die: the screen slowly faded to black, over the course of about 30 seconds, like a movie would fade to black over a particularly dramatic coda. These were my thoughts as I watched my windows fade away. Even the little green power light on the front of the monitor faded with everything else. My old monitor faded to black I watched it die. Goodbye, faithful hardware!

BUT THEN it faded back! You guys, it faded back just as it had faded out. It was a death-bed deke, and I was totally taken in. The monitor did this cycle a few more times, but I was wise to it now. I wasn't going to be taken in again. Eventually the monitor stopped fading out entirely, and we both got back to what we were working on before.

That was this morning. Just now, it faded to black and hasn't recovered. The power light has died with the screen too, but its switch is still in the "on" position. Okay, so just now I turned the power off and on again and the monitor recovered perfectly fine. MAN I GOT DEKED AGAIN.

Okay, so clearly this monitor is sick but doesn't want to die; it wants a peek at its obituary before it goes. Well here you go, monitor, I've moved this window over to you and I'm writing this on you and this is your obituary. If you do anything awesome after I post this I'll update it appropriately, but I think this is where our two paths diverge. You have been a good and faithful monitor and I will probably not forgot many of the things I saw through you.

You were a good monitor!

Artist's carry on luggage [Jul. 9th, 2009|02:46 pm]

pablowapsi
As you know, I'll be heading out to San Diego Comic Con near the end of this month.  I just talked to someone at the TSA about bringing Copic marker refills on the airplane in carry on luggage, from their rules they don't have a problem with it but I was informed that if a security screener has their underwear in a knot that day, they could be confiscated.  Has anyone else in the artist community traveled with Copic marker refills?  Any problems?
Not sure if I want to ship them but I might have to check luggage with them in that.  Not sure. =/

80's Action Flick Adventure [Jul. 9th, 2009|06:11 am]

I love 80's action movies like you cannot believe. There's just something about them. They really don't make 'em like that anymore and it's a damn shame. Nowadays it seems like action movies are all about brooding anti-heroes and robots fighting other robots and blah blah who cares. But, man, back then it was all about kung-fu and and cops who play by their own set of rules and military commandos with someone they had to protect at all costs and awesome synth/sax soundtracks and they are just awesome. Awesome!

Yay! Black Jack is my favorite work by Osamu Tezuka and one of my favorite manga/anime characters ever. Reading the Black Jack manga totally inspired this strip. Unfortunately I didn't use him any differently than I'd use any other doctor in this particular strip (he could've been Dr. Mario and the strip would've still worked just as well), but hey, it's Black Jack, dammit! He's awesome.
I promised some Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toy reviews and so I give you my first one. This is Dead End, he's a scout class figure (second to smallest class) of a character who isn't in the movie at all. GASP! You might ask, why would I want a small little robot that doesn't even appear in the movie? Easy, because he looks awesome, he's also a nice shade of red (my favorite color).

He's a rather interesting design as far as the movie look is concerned. He's got a really weird bird head thing going on, and to make matters weirder he has an opening mouth that reveals teeth. Weird huh. He's very poseable (a bit plus for me) and is able to stand with no problem (something you don't seem to get a lot of in the ROTF design as you're soon to find out). Overall, he's a rather spiffy looking robot.

What REALLY sold me on this figure was his vehicle mode. Now it's a REAL rarity when I'm sold on a Transformer by it's alt mode. 9 out of 10 times it's usually the robot mode that sells me on the figure, but I totally love the car mode here. Other than the aforementioned awesomeness of being red, he's got a great design.

It's supposedly based on a Peugeot 9009 concept car, but I love how sleek and stylized the design is. It's got a cool retro future look to it and even a slight amount of cartooniness, which I love. I guess cartoony might be bad for this line, since they are mostly going for realistic vehicle designs, but to me it looks excellent. It's a beautiful car, and I'd totally drive one of those... if I owned one... and could afford to own one...

The transformation for the toy is fairly simple, but has enough twists and turns to keep it interesting and fun. Overall I have to say I like Dead End, he's one of my favorites of the line so far, and I hightly recommend him.

Ideas and references [Jul. 8th, 2009|11:48 pm]

[Current Mood | blah]

Hi. It's already been four years of reading RPG World over and over and I still find it funny and interesting. But the fact it doesn't have a proper ending spoils the whole thing. I think the best way to end it is how we expect it to end. Of course, not all of us can agree it will end the same way, so please post how you thought it would end. I expected to see Reka revive, or hero get really shiny-glowy and beat the bad guys. But this could make it to boring. We could also add a little spice, like another main character death or the Anima del Breaker in action. I've got ideas, the problem is, I'm crap drawing.

Okay, so don't ask me how I found it but here's a website that links most references to RPG World. Oh, and don't rad the stuff above if you don't want to. It's thick.

[nockFORCE] Something new!!! [Jul. 8th, 2009|12:16 pm]

ian_j
Heyyy our new cartoon just went up

Why is it going up on Wednesday afternoon instead of Sunday night? Well this is in association with Animation Block Party and Mydamnchannel... those guys are pretty cool, maybe if things work out we can do more things with them.

EDIT: Lil note about this quickie, the "popular kids" are a total parody of that crunchy "this is cool because it's poorly drawn" graphic design convention that seems to be everywhere these days. if i see another shakily hand-drawn block letter logo i'm gonna explode!

Workin on a lot of new stuff, nockFORCE-related and not. finally got some new comic ideas and more animation work seems to be coming thru for me... its weird because i usually get so hopeless about jobs. i've just been too busy lately to become hopeless. Also i'm looking for a new place to live in brooklyn... craigslist is burned into my eyes these days.
